Canton's Motor City Riversharks 10U travel baseball team
finished in third place in the Livonia Summer Slam.
Solid pitching and timely hitting led the Sharks to two early
victories. In the first game, Shark pitcher Ryan Boyd threw a no-hitter
and the Riversharks' offense pounded out 16 hits in an easy win over
the Lakeland All-Stars. Boyd fanned five hitters and kept the Lakeland
offense off balance the entire day.
Brendan Olepa led the Sharks with three hits. Boyd, Jeremy
Armstead, Davey Farhat, Shane Aigner and Jake Semik contributed two
hits a piece. Boyd and Semik each contributed three RBI while Brendan
Lacorato launched a home run.
The Sharks matched their success in the second game, beating the
Huron Valley Rebels, 11-2, to clinch a berth in the tournament
semifinals. Kyle Winfrey and Aigner combined for a one-hitter.
Offensively, the Sharks were paced by Chase Every, who tallied two hits
and two RBI. Lacorato and Semik also contributed two RBI each.
The Riversharks dropped a heart-breaking 7-6 decision to the
Livonia Titans in the semis. Winfrey and Semik surrendered just three
earned runs and the offense made a dramatic comeback beginning in the
top of the fifth. Trailing 6-1, Lacorato, Farhat and Olepa ripped
consecutive singles. After Joe Watson walked, Lentine drove a triple to
deep left field to clear the bases. Lentine then scored on an Aigner
groundnut.
However, the Titans answered with a run in the bottom of the
fifth to notch the win.
