Matt Roos (bottom) had a successful day, posting a a 4-1 record against some very tough competition, including a win over No. 2-rated Kevin Beazley. Roos' only loss came at the hands of No. 1-ranked Matt Vandermeer of Clarkston (above).

Rockets cruise, Patriots make statement at Rocket Duals

    Twelve Metro Detroit wrestling teams had a full day of competition at Westland John Glenn on Saturday.  The perennially strong field included three Division 1 teams ranked in the top 10 by MichiganGrappler.com, and at least one more that showed they should have been.  Detroit Catholic Central (#1), Romeo (#7), and Roseville (#9) were the ranked teams and Livonia Franklin and perhaps Clarkston showed they should be considered when the new rankings come out.

  Catholic Central certainly lived up to their ranking, winning the first four duals by a combined score of 274-15.  Livonia Franklin put up as many points against DCC as the previous four teams combined, but still were beaten soundly, 50-15.  The Patriots made it to the championship matches with convincing wins over Clarkston, Romeo, Belleville, and Walled Lake Central.

  Two other Observerland teams, John Glenn and Belleville, won a couple duals each and their young wrestlers got lots of valuable experience.
