Rocks pound Cougars; Novi next

Jan. 30, 2010, 10:45 p.m.

Salem's trio of stellar senior captains received a boost from a rising star Friday night against South Lyon East.

Led by Sara Stone (19 points, seven rebounds), Brett de Bear (16 points) and Rachel Norman (14), the Rocks posted their sixth straight victory, 68-38, over the overmatched Cougars.

The surging Rocks also received a shot in the arm from ninth-grader Breanne Beaver, who notched her first career double-double, registering 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Salem (9-3 overall) will take a 6-0 KLAA Central Division record into Tuesday's home game against 5-1 Novi. Salem is the only team to have beaten the Wildcats in the Division this season.

The Cougars actually led 12-9 after the first quarter before the Rocks responded with 23-point second and third quarters to seize a commanding 55-30 advantage with eight minutes to play.

"They had a great first quarter, but we kind of rolled after that," said Salem coach Fred Thomann. "It was a good game for us. We'll see if we're ready for Novi on Tuesday."
