Salem's girls basketball team redeemed an early-season loss to
Brighton Wednesday night by upending the Bulldogs 49-39 in the
regular-season finale for both teams.
The Rocks (13-7) were paced by their trio of senior captains,
who combined for 39 points.
Brett de Bear led the way with 15 points, Sara Stone added 14
and Rachel Norman contributed 10.
Heidi Schmidt (four), Katelynn Krause (two), Brianna Beaver
(two) and Tabitha Mann (two) closed out the scoring.
The second quarter proved pivotal for the Rocks, who outscored
the Bulldogs 18-7 in the frame to take a 29-17 lead into the half.
Stone tallied 10 of her points in the second stanza and de Bear tossed
in six.
"We had our lowest turnover total of the season (six), so that
was a key for us," noted Salem coach Fred Thomann. "The girls did a
great job against a very good Brighton team. They beat us by 12 early
in the season, so it was a nice win for us."
Stone lead all rebounders with 10.
Salem led 11-10 after one quarter and 40-28 after three.
The Rocks open District play Monday night at 7 p.m. against host
Novi. The teams split their two regular-season match-ups.
