Salem's girls
soccer team may not have been in mid-season form Monday afternoon
against Livonia Ladywood, but it was pretty darn close.
The Rocks were strong in all facets of the game as they blanked
the host Blazers, 5-0, in their season opener.
"I thought we accomplished what we wanted to, which was possess
the ball and attack the open spaces of the field," said Salem coach Joe
Nora. "We were able to open things up a bit more in the second half,
which led to more scoring chances.
"Our back line of Lauren Booth, Lindsey Roy, Jenna Coon,
Christine Pittel, Ro Aschermann and Megan McCormack did a great job
organizing our defense and starting our offense."
The lone first-half goal came from Katelynn Krause, who was
assisted by Lindsey Newton.
The Rocks' offense exploded in the second half, receiving goals
from Brett de Bear (from Emily Lundh), Kristina Klusek (from Gina
Goble), Newton (from Klusek) and Taylor Burgoon (from Newton).
Jamie Hunley was stellar in front of the net, turning away five
Ladywood shots.
