One year after playing in the KLAA Kensington Conference title
showdown, Salem and Livonia Franklin squared off in a KLAA cross-over
game Wednesday at Franklin.
The Rocks prevailed, 6-0, in the rubber game of a three-game set
this spring.
"We won by one run the first time we placed them and lost by a
run in our tourney, so it was nice to come back and play this well,"
said Salem coach Bonnie Southerland.
Bri Lee earned the win for the Rocks, striking out six while
allowing just two hits and one walk.
Salem ripped nine hits and drew a walk off Franklin starting
pitcher Tiffany Lamble, who struck out five.
Notching the only two hits for Franklin were Afton Dewyse and
Nicole Emery.
Leading Salem's offensive onslaught were Mary Johnson (two
singles), Sam Maksimovic (home run) and Kelli Janiczek (double). Lizzy
Mazorowicz, Megan Johnson, Alexis Powell, Lee and Jenny First all
contributed singles.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Salem
exploded with seven of their nine hits.
The big hit of the inning was Maksimovic's three-run home run.
"Sam was struggling at the plate today, but she had a great hit
right when we needed it the most," said Southerland.
The Rocks host West Bloomfield Monday in a non-conference
double-header.
