Salem sophomore pitcher Matt
Constance dominated an overmatched Westland John Glenn batting order
Monday afternoon, tossing a three-hit/13-strikeout complete game.
The victory improved the
Rocks to 10-11 overall and 5-7 in the KLAA Kensington Conference.
Constance was in complete
command of all of his pitches, allowing just one Rocket to advance as
far as second base. He did not yield a walk and retired 10 consecutive
batters at one point.
Constance and John Glenn
righty Spencer Dowd were deadlocked in a scoreless pitchers' duel until
the Rocks sprung for three runs in the fourth inning when Tate Theisen
rocked a two-out solo home run.
The Rocks cushioned their
lead when the next three batters reached safely before Brad Trublowski
drilled a two-run double up the right-center field gap.
Salem's lead improved to 4-0
in the fifth when Devin Price drove in Nick Leventis, who had doubled.
The Rocks closed the scoring
in the sixth when Ken Novack knocked in a run with a fielder's choice
and Alex King delivered a run-scoring single.
Leventis finished 3-for-4
while Brett Ramirez and Trublowski both ripped a pair of hits.
Salem will host Novi in a
double-header on Wednesday. The first-game first pitch is set for 4 p.m.
