Rocks stay in KLAA race with 5-3 win

Jan . 14, 2010, 3:10 p.m.

A Kensington Lakes Activities Association South Division title is well within Salem's grasp following Tuesday's 5-3 victory over Livonia Churchill.

The Rocks, who improved to 5-4-3 overall, face a pivotal three-game stretch beginning Saturday night when they take on Walled Lake Western, Livonia Franklin and Plymouth, who they host Jan. 22 at 8:30 p.m.

"This was a very important league game and our guys competed very well," Salem coach Ryan Ossenmacher said of the two-goal victory against the Chargers. "We are beginning to find some of the consistency that we have been looking for this season."

The Rocks won despite being outshot 30-22. Steven Manser was solid between the pipes, stopping 27 shots.

Senior captain Mario Macari was a force for the Rocks, tallying a pair of goals -- their first and fifth -- and drawing an assist on Josh Jarvela's goal.

Wesley Carr and Garrett Berg also lit the lamp for Salem, which got assists from Jarvela (two), Ryan Quigley, Michael Hochkins and Berg.
