Rock golfers return to action after two-year absense from links

Sept. 2, 2010, 5:25 p.m.

The Salem girls golf team's revival took a huge step this week when the Rocks competed in a pair of matches for the first time in over two years.

For the past two falls, the Rocks' program was all but shut due to a lack of players.

On Monday, Salem opened its season with a 219-245 setback to South Lyon at Fox Hills Golf Course in Plymouth Township.

Gabby LeBlanc fired a 53 to lead the hosts. Also scoring for Salem were Lizzie Mazorowicz (57), Ewa Zajac (61) and Christine Li (74).

Competing but not scoring for Salem were Kristin Schultz (74) and Katie Vena (81).

Sara led the Lions with a 53. Also scoring for South Lyon were Lindsay (55), Lauren (56) and Melanie (56).

On Wednesday at Fox Hills, The Rocks shaved several strokes off their scores, but came out on the short end of a 190-234 decision to a talented South Lyon East contingent.

LeBlanc led the way again with a solid 51. Zajac's 53 was close behind while Mazorowicz (59) and Li (61) rounded out the scoring. Vena fired a 64 while Makenzie Brown carded an 86.

Brenna and Taylor led East with identical 45's. Elena shot a 46 while Rachel notched a 54.
