Salem golfers split pair of matches

  Salem's boys golf team improved to 2-1 Wednesday afternoon with a 151-161 victory over Livonia Stevenson.

  Rock senior captain Aaron Thompson was the day's  medalist, firing an even-par 36 on the challenging Fox Hills layout.

  Also scoring for Salem were Patrick Doty (37), Brian Patterson (37) and Eric Duprey (41). Josh Perrin carded a 41 and Brandon Duprey a 42 to round out the varsity players.

  Drew Mossoian and Christian Debay both shot team-low rounds of 39 for the Spartans, who slipped to 1-3. Also scoring for Stevenson were Tom Cullum (41) and Adam Giordano (42).

  Salem dropped a 169-174 decision in the junior varsity match despite a strong effort from Jake Leib, who fired a 40. Tommy Halling (44), Nick Riley (45) and Kyle Eggenberger (45) also scored for the Rocks, who received solid outings from David Nikkila (45) and Anthony Falke (47).

  The Spartans JV squad was paced by Nick Collins and Nick Barr, both of whom carded 41's.

  Salem fell to state-ranked and unbeaten Northville, 160-168, on Monday at Tanglewood Golf Club.

  Thompson was stellar, shooting a 40, one shot better than Eric Duprey. Brandon Duprey (43) and Patterson (44) also scored for Salem. Perrin turned in a round of 47 while Leib shot a 51.

  Northville (3-0) was led by Blake Bonatz's 39. Also scoring for the Mustangs were Alex Bernstein (40), Mike Walton (40) and Trevor Grigg (41). Brandon Cameron and Eric Goebel both shot 43.
