Salem's wrestling team
saluted its stellar senior class with a 57-24 triumph over South Lyon
East.
The elation over the victory was softened somewhat by the fact
that the Cougars voided five matches.
After Salem's Alex Arbol won a void at 103, SLE's
Tyler Foley evened the match with a pin of Danny Kemp.
The Cougars grabbed a shortlived 12-6 lead when Nick
Byrnes pinned Cody Korpus at 119, whoever, Salem evened the competition
when Devin Stratton won by void at 125.
After Devin Stratton won by void at 125, SLE's Ryan Foley pinned
Matt Lang in 1:26 to pull the Cougars to within 18-12. Salem's
lead dissipated a short time later when Kevin Case pinned James
Middleditch in 4:53 to make things even-steven again at 18-all.
Sparked by Austin Banfield's 58-second pin of Gary Sipoliga at
140, the Rocks took charged and never looked back, winning the
next three matches: Dylan Hatcher won by void, Joe Williams won
by void and Colin Gross earned an impressive 4-0 win over Jaia Haddad
to put the Rocks ahead, 39-18.
East's Adrian Lockard pinned Brad Sugg at 171, to pull East to
within 39-24, but Jordan Zhou countered with a 3:51 pin of Tim Mindling
to enhance Salem's lead to 45-24.
The Rocks scored the final 12 points on Nick Giannini's
49-second pin of Casey Fadden and Adam Turner's win via void at
heavyweight.
