A spectacular defensive performance from Kerstin Johnson & Co. led Salem's volleyball team to three-game sweep of South Lyon Thursday night.

Led by Johnson's 16 digs (the senior also contributed five kills and two aces), the Rocks prevailed 25-13, 25-21, 25-20.

"We played great defensively tonight," said Salem coach Amanda Nies. "I am very proud of my girls after a loss to Novi on Tuesday. We really came out strong all three matches, never let up and kept up the intensity.

"I moved some players around to different positions on defense and it seemed to work. They were really working together and never gave up on plays."

In addition to Johnson, other standouts included Nicole Merget (10 kills, three blocks), Jillian Sommerville (seven kills) and Kerry MacDonald, who racked up 28 assists, seven digs and four aces.
