Fresh off its stellar performance in Saturday's Beast of the East tournament, Salem's volleyball team hammered visiting Livonia Stevenson, 25-18, 25-14, 25-18, Tuesday night in a key KLAA Central Division showdown.

Several Rocks contributed mightily to the victory, most notably Lauren Aschermann (10 digs), Nicole Merget (13 kills), Jillian Sommerville (nine kills), Kerry MacDonald (three kills, 27 assists, 10 digs), Kara Hewett (two kills, two blocks, one ace) and Madeleine Vala, who dug out 10 potential kills.

"We started off slow in the beginning, but really turned things around," said Salem head coach Amanda Nies. "We were down in game one, 11-4, and made a big run to tie it up at 14.

"I am glad I got to play everyone tonight and it was fun being 'Parent Night' and all. We are really coming together and as a coach that's when you want your team right now to start turning it around."
