  Salem's girls cross country team turned in a stellar performance at Friday's MSU Spartan Invitational at Forest Akers Golf Course in East Lansing.

  Led by a pair of medalists, the Rocks placed seventh in the 29-team event.

  Freshman Kayla Kavulich paced the Rocks with a 12th-place finish in 18:56. Senior Victoria Tripp also ran very well, placing 26th in 19:20. Both medalists' times were personal bests.

  Shannon Flynn placed 58th in 20:07, just ahead of teammates Madison Goodpasture (74th in 20:26), Emily Bizon (79th in 20:34) and Kara Booms, who crossed the line in 86th place with a time of 20:37. Goodpasture, Bizon and Booms all posted PR's.

  Autumn Burin placed 122nd in 21:05.

  Grand Haven won the invitational with 147 points, 42 less than runner-up Traverse City Central. Also finishing ahead of the Rocks were Rockford (191 points), Midland Dow (220), Pinckney (227) and Grosse Pointe South (241).

  Salem picked up 249 points.

  Five Rocks were medals in the junior-varsity race: Adrianna Beltran (first in 20:37), Alejandra Beltran (second in 20:41), Amanda Beyer (fourth in 21:06), Natasha Stevenson (fifth in 21:18) and Phoebe VanHoof (12th in 21:55).

  All five JV runners set personal-best times.

  On Tuesday, the Rocks will take on Northville in a critical KLAA Central Division dual meet set for Cass Benton Park in Northville.
