Spartans solid at season-opening tourney

  Livonia Stevenson's wrestling team placed sixth at Saturday's 14-team Grand Blanc Invitational.

  Swan Valley, which had five individual champions, won the event with 241.5 points. The Spartans compiled 92 points thanks to the efforts of eight placers.

  Rounding out the top five were Northville (183.5), Davison (147.5), Waterford Kettering (140) and Grand Blanc (134).

  Earning points for the Spartans were: Ash Alhaj (third at 112 pounds), Omar Mostafa (sixth at 119); Samer Shebak (sixth at 130); Charlie Kokenakes (fourth at 140), Dan McCarthy (fourth at 171), Andrew Schramm (second at 189), Derek Wenderlich (sixth at 215) and Nathan Keedle (fifth at 285).
