While the local newspaper turns to its usual summer offering of
regionalized sports coverage - filling its pages with a variety of
stories generated from Livonia, Garden City and Redford -
PlymouthCantonSports.com continues to churn out LOCAL sports news on a
daily basis.
In the past three days alone, PlymouthCantonSports.com has
provided exclusive, on-the-site coverage of Sunday's PCEP Home Run
Derby, an event organized by local residents to help raise money for a
special-needs baseball field in downtown Plymouth; Monday's thrilling
Canton-vs.-Salem summer league hockey match-up; Monday's GCYBSA 18U
playoffs; and Tuesday night's Colony Swim Club meet against the
Newburgh Sharks.
All local sports news. All the time.
"I guess when you're owned by a huge corporation like the local
newspaper, you can afford to take the summer off," said
PlymouthCantonSports.com owner Ed Wright. "One thing I've been
committed to since starting this website last September was to provide
the site's visitors with fresh, local news - no matter what time of
year it is.
"Sunday's Home Run Derby was a perfect example of why
PlymouthCantonSports.com is the No. 1 source for local sports news and
why sports fans in the community know it's the site to hit for local
news. I had a story and photos online by 4:30 Sunday afternoon, a
couple hours after the event ended. The local paper didn't even feel it
was important enough to send a reporter out to cover."
PlymouthCantonSports.com's unyielding commitment to covering
local sports has resulted in close to 800,000 hits in just 10 months.
"The site is only going to get better," Wright promised. "In
addition to providing comprehensive coverage of all local sporting
events - from youth sports, to high school sports, to rec sports to
coverage of the Plymouth Whalers - I will be adding video highlights of
local athletic events this fall.
"At the same time the local newspaper is getting thinner by the
day, I fully intend to improve my product."
Among the stories that will appear on PlymouthCantonSports.com
in the coming days are:
* a feature on Plymouth High School graduate Kyle Sanders, who
is pursuing a degree that would make all golf enthusiasts envious;
* a feature on former Salem gridiron standouts Heath Parling and
Anthony Mullins, both of whom are entering their redshirt freshman
seasons at Grand Valley State University;
* a feature on former Plymouth High School softball standout Kim
Klonowski, who is tearing the cover off the ball at Youngstown State
University;
* continued coverage of the GCYBSA 18U playoffs, including a
special coverage of Saturday's All-Star Game at Eastern Michigan
University; and
* a feature on former Canton High School multi-sport standout
Jake Powers, who is participating in an incredible program that places
recent college graduates in inner-city teaching roles.
"I owe it to my advertisers to work as hard as I can so that
their businesses are exposed to the greatest number of people," Wright
concluded. "The more fresh, local stories I can produce, the more
traffic the site will generate."
