In the
not-too-distant future, there's a good chance Warren Buzzard will be
designing spacecraft that travel to distant galaxies.
But for the next few months his goals and focus will be a little
more grounded.
Buzzard is a senior captain on the ultra-talented Plymouth cross
country team. A 3.97 student, he has, let's say, lofty ambitions after
high school.
"I'd like to possibly major in aerospace engineering," he said,
when asked about his career ambitions. "My dad is an engineer and
that's what I think I'd like to do. I'd like to attend either the
University of Michigan, Purdue or Georgia Tech."
At his current pace, he may be running at one of those schools
as well as studying. The senior captain was a key member of a Wildcat
cross-country team that placed 12th in the Division 1 state meet. He
also excelled for the Plymouth track-and-field team last spring,
earning All-State honors after placing eighth in the 800-meter run.
"My parents have always run, so they kind of talked me into it,"
Buzzard said. "I like hanging out with the team and I like the feeling
of winning races."
Buzzard worked hard this summer, fueled by the desire to better
his personal-best time in 5,000-kilometer races.
"I want to get under 16 minutes this year," Buzzard said, noting that
his previous best was 16:34. "I ran a lot every day this summer, so I
think I can do it."
