The Canton
boys and girls cross country teams got off on the right foot against
Livonia Franklin Tuesday in the KLAA South Division opener for both
teams.
The Chiefs' boys team upended the Patriots, 16-45, while the
girls edged Franklin, 27-28.
The boys team swept the top four spots, led by first-place Zack
Spreitzer, who won in 17:03. Keith Zech (second in 17:18), Paul
Rakovitis (third in 17:21) and Mitch Clinton (fourth in 17:28) also ran
well.
Canton's final points came from Bradon Conley, who was sixth in
17:48.
Jon Peck and Miles Felton placed eighth and ninth, respectively,
for Canton.
Nik Gherardini was the first Patriot to cross the finish line,
placing fifth in 17:32.
GIRLS WIN
THRILLER
Canton's girls team registered an exciting 27-28 victory over
the Patriots. Bianca Kubicki (second in 20:48) and Emily Southern
(fourth in 21:17) paced the winners.
A trio of Chiefs placed sixth through eighth -- Abigail
Gorzalski (21:29), Katie Grimes (21:59) and Rachel Rohrbach (22:03),
respectively -- to solidify the victory.
Franklin's Megan McPherson cross the finish line first in 19:34.
Rachael Brunk (11th in 22:38) and Hailee Azizi (14th in 23:04)
also ran well for Canton.
