Head Coach
Don
Giese returns for his second season.
Despite having a line-up of mostly first or second year varsity
wrestlers, Garden City did OK. They
finished third at the Western Wayne Athletic Conference tournament,
ahead of
established programs like Dearborn, Fordson,
and Romulus. The Cougars placed 14th
in the 26-team Wayne County tournament. They also got two
individuals out of the tough Plymouth District.
The Cougars lose
only two starters to graduation, Jeremy Dubyak (130) and Devin Ashley
(135,
regional qualifier).
It appears that virtually every spot in the line-up will be
filled
with someone with at least one full year of varsity experience. Regional qualifier Kevin Allard is the most
accomplished wrestler, but fellow seniors Aaron Andrews, Kevin Liske,
and Zack
Cooper could have break-out seasons as well.
Numerous sophomores like Zack Brock, Patton Fickett, Dylan Frye,
D.J.
Giese, Brian Spehar, and Matt Wisniewski will be looking to bolster
Garden
City’s record this year.
Here is a
speculative look at what the Cougar line-up may look like:
103 – ?
112 – Dillon Frye (So)
119 – Britton Borlace (Jr) or Rob Doane (Jr)
125 – Nick Doane (Jr)
130 – Devin Marchio (Jr) or Brendan Spehar (Fr)
135 – Brian Spehar (So)
140 – Patton Fickett (So)
145 – Kevin Allard (Sr)
152 – Kevin Liske (Sr)
160 – Aaron Andrews (Sr) or Matt Wisniewski (So)
171 – Don Giese (So)
189 – Zach Cooper (Sr)

285 – Zach Brock (So)
