Shamrocks take down host
Rockets in championship match

  Twelve teams from the Detroit metropolitan area congregated in John Glenn's huge gymnasium for the first wrestling tournament of the season.

  They ranged in strength from solid programs in rebuilding years to state title contenders. The wrestlers, too, varied in experience, from freshmen in their very first year of wrestling to returning state champions.

  There were many duals that were decided in the last match, and many exciting individual matches. The most intriguing may have been the very last match of the day, where Detroit Catholic Central freshman 112-pounder Ken Bade defeated returning all-state wrestler Steve Wakeford of John Glenn.

  Observerland teams made up a third of the field and performed admirably. Catholic Central and John Glenn were both undefeated in their pools and finished first and second, respectively.

  Belleville and Livonia Franklin finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Below are the available scores from each dual, and the final team placements.
