Plymouth's wrestling team
pounded Waterford Mott, 72-6, Wednesday night before fall to a
formidable North Farmington unit, 37-29.
"The team looked very sharp against Waterford Mott,
winning the first eight matches," said Plymouth coach Quinn Guernsey.
"It was good to see them working hard for bonus points and falls. It is
easy to come out flat against a team that has four void and count on
that to carry you to a win, but our guys wrestled very intense
throughout the dual."
The Wildcats won the opening seven matches, the first two on
Shadi Jammoul's 5-2 decision over Kevin Shafto at 103 and Alec
Breckenridge's 53-second pin of Walter Mersino.
Said Youssef then won by void, preceding Chase Khalil's pin of
Lewis Botsford at 125.
Also earning
falls for the winners were Jimmy Ahearn at 140, Brandon Crowther at
152, Robbie Barackman at 160, Curtis Crosier at 189 and Brenden Varner
at 189.
The Wildcats excelled in the lowest weights against the unbeaten
Raiders as Jammoul pinned Mike Hoover in 2:54; Breckenridge pinned M.
Williams in 5:45 and Youssef dec.. J. Russel, 6-5.
However, the Raiders won eight of the final 11 matches to earn
the "W".
"North Farmington is a very balanced team that is very similar
in talent to our own," said Quinn Guernsey. "We could wrestle against
them 30 times and the score could be different any of those times.
"Their team finds ways to put opponents on their back coming out
of scrambles and it worked for them against us in a number of matches.
Said Youssef and Shadi Jammoul both had very impressive wins over
high-quality opponents.
