Wildcats' early birds get the medals in Ypsi

BY ED WRIGHT

There were numerous Wildcat sightings at Thursday's 22nd Annual Ypsilanti  "Early Bird" Invitational cross country meet.
Most of the sightings were at the front of the pack.
Six members of Plymouth's boys cross country team earned medals at the 5-kilometer race, which was held on the challenging terrain of Ypsilanti High School's Simpson Trail.
Team scores weren't compiled, but you could tell by one look at the hardware hanging from the necks of the Wildcats that they had a great day.
Joe Porcari was the top Plymouth runner, placing second with a time of 17:26, just seven seconds behind overall winner John Bateson of Blissfield.
Also medaling for Plymouth were Warren Buzzard (fourth in 17:39), Matt Neumann (fifth in 17:46), Derek Gielarowski (ninth in 18:10), Stephen Balaze (14th in 18:35) and Jimmy Eiben, who finished 17th in 18:45.
