Plymouth's
tennis team wasn't perfect Tuesday against Livonia Churchill, but they
were so close to perfection they could taste it.
The Wildcats won all but one set in their lopsided 9-0 victory over the
Chargers in a match played at the PCEP tennis courts.
The match was the season opener for coach Tom Kimball's squad.
Sophomore Aaron Zhang set the tone for the afternoon when he
knocked off Churchill's Matt Cezat, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.
The Wildcats then cruised through the rest of the singles matches with
Matt Dwan ousting Ziwen Deng, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2; Pat Onoro
overmatching Mike Houghan, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3; and Pat Bailey waxing
Vishal Joshi, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4.
The Wildcats' No. 1 doubles team of Andy Mitchell and John Lopus
outstroked Rushi Patel and Joe Mulka, 6-1, 6-3, while the No. 2 duo of
Drew Leist and Grant Senkbeil mastered Ryan McPherson and Fred Beshara,
6-1, 6-4.
Closing out the shutout were No. 3 doubles players Hank
Eckardt and Ian Fleming, who handled Eric Stromberg and Kyle Appel,
6-0, 6-0; the No. 4 doubles tandem of Grant Heinze and David Choos, who
made short work of Alex Zuccarini and Mike Inglis, 6-1, 6-0; and the
No. 5 team of Joe Lindlbauer and Mitch McKinstry, who edged Tejas Joshi
and Mayuresh Iyer, 6-4, 5-7 and 6-3.
